Coming Soon…

The Flint Public Library will be brand new within the footprint of its historical strong building! So much is exciting about this “forever” space that we will begin to share with you right now! Here is what we learned this month.

  • Attention to history and important details: The ceramics in the wall in the children section required moving the entire concrete wall to bring them for the children and this area will include a huge aquarium.
  • There will be a mural by Kevin Burdick on the retaining wall outside the windows facing FIA.
  • The “stacks” are on wheels and will open for use.
  • For those searching their family’s story, the genealogy section has some cool new features and tools so access will easily be yours!
  • The stairway to the second floor appears to float – and a stage nestles here!

The answer to ‘why the time gap of closing the Flint Public Library’s temporary home in Courtland Center and the Grand Re-opening for our use?’ The answer is obvious to anyone who has ever changed homes.

Moving isn’t easy.

The library has thousands of books and documents and all of us must have easy access to everything when the doors open! In computer terms, user friendly. State of the Art means merging all our important resources into their new homes in a way that makes access by all of us easy.
