Ask Kia (For Sound Solutions)

Q. Kia, I often wonder why it is that so many people seem depressed during the holiday season. I read and hear about so many who even attempt, and some succeed at taking their own lives. What do you think is the cause of this sad truth?

A. Unfortunately, there are those who are not in tune with the true meaning of Christmas. There are many who feel sad and depressed due to feelings of loneliness, economic insecurity, and the inability to ‘keep up with the Joneses.’

The reason for this season is by no means shopping, elaborate dinners, decorating, and partying. The true reason for the season is to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It costs nothing to give Him Glory, Honor, Praise, and Thanks for who He is and all He has done for us. And with that, the results are Joy, Peace, Love, and Happiness rather than feelings of loneliness and depression. It is my prayer that we all embrace the truth of “Joy to The World, The Lord Has Come”

Q. Why do you think that some people hate other people for no apparent reason other than differences in physical appearance?

A. Hatred is a taught and learned belief and subsequent behavior. Babies are not born with hatred. They are indwelled with a natural reflection of love, which is the gift of God. And that love only turns into hatred when it is interrupted by the works and deceptions of our adversary, the devil. The more we learn about God and His Goodness, the less we are subjected to the lies of the enemy. Love is the answer to every problem because God is Love.

Q. I am feeling depressed because I really don’t have any true friends. The people I’m usually around are hardly ever available and I feel alone the majority of the time. What can I do to resolve this problem?

A. You can pray for the wisdom and strength to accept the things you cannot change, the courage to change the things you can; along with knowing and believing that you are never alone. God is with you always, and He hears and answers your prayers. He is also your Provider and will provide absolutely everything you need. A very effective way to defeat depression is to count your blessings and be thankful for the Goodness of God. You can trust His promise to never leave you nor forsake you.
