Q. Kia, why do you think there is so much hatred and bitterness in the world, with people fighting and killing people they don’t even know?

A. I do believe the answer to your question is that there are people who do not know God, nor believe that He is who He is. Hatred and bitterness are the behaviors and teachings of those people. They are deceived and influenced by the devil, who is the prince of darkness, rather than by Jesus Christ, who is the Prince of Peace. Jesus is Love, and people who know Him and believe in Him, are those who love and care for one another regardless of race, creed, or color. God is the Creator, Maker, and Father of us all. Therefore, we are all Sisters and Brothers in Him. We are commanded by our Savior, Jesus Christ, to love one another. If we follow our Savior’s command, all hatred and bitterness would be gone. Love is the answer.

Q. What is so hard about saying ‘thank you’ when someone shows even the smallest kindness? I have to admit that it bugs me when I hold a door open for someone and they just totally ignore my kindness. Should I say something to them, or just ignore it?

A. It would help you to remember that your every kindness is pleasing to God and pleasing Him is all that matters. Whatever you do to, or for the least of God’s people, you are doing it unto Him. So don’t worry, or even think about how people respond to your acts of kindness. Know that God sees and knows all, and your acts of kindness never go unnoticed. So don’t stop being kind. God smiles on your every act of love and kindness.

Q. Kia, I sometimes feel less loved and appreciated in church than in some other places where people are friendlier and easier to talk with. (Like the barber shop, or even the Farmers’ Market sometimes) Even though I enjoy the singing, praising, and teaching, I don’t feel perceived as part of the church itself. What can I do to feel more comfortable and accepted in church?

A. I suggest you keep your mind on the reason you’re there which should be to praise and worship God. When your mind and heart are focused on Him, everything else will fall into place. In addition, you must show yourself friendly, which will surely make fellowshipping with other worshipers natural, easier, and far more comfortable to you.
