Q: Kia, I am so saddened by the continuously increasing violence in our country. The senseless killing of innocent people breaks my heart. What can we, as ordinary citizens, do to make a difference in stopping, or at least reducing, the heartbreaking acts of violence all around us?
A: Our strongest weapon against the vicious attacks of the enemy is PRAYER. We are encouraged by the Word of God to boldly go before our God with our concerns and requests. He hears and answers our prayers in His perfect way and timing. In addition to our seeking the Grace, Mercy, Power and Wisdom of God, we can petition those who are elected to serve and protect us in their governmental assignments. We can continue to demand gun control and hold the distributors of lethal weapons accountable for the violent acts of those to whom they supply weapons without background checks and legal authorizations to acquire them. May we never cease to pray for love and peace throughout the world.
Q: What is the reason, Kia, that so many people are ignoring not only the advice of medical professionals regarding the importance of wearing masks to guard against the spread of the Covid-19 virus; but are also ignoring the fact that a vast number of people have contracted, and many have died from the virus? There are so many people who continue to put their lives and the lives of others at risk. What do you suggest we do to convince them to mask up? What can those who are compliant do to encourage others to do the same?
A: Unfortunately, there are those who for various reasons are either not fearful or concerned about the gravity of the virus and choose who choose to ignore the advice of others. I suggest you take the necessary actions to avoid close contact with anyone without a mask; and continue to observe and submit to the advice of your medical professionals and others who are taking precautions. And above all else, pray for the guidance and protection of God.
Q: What can I do to stop people from throwing their trash in my yard? I am so angered by this careless and inexcusable behavior.
A: Unfortunately, it is impossible for us to control the behavior of anyone other than ourselves. I suggest you pray the Serenity Prayer; (God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.) Then decide to do what it is you can do to keep and maintain your yard to your satisfaction. You are blessed with the ability to choose how you respond to any given situation or circumstance.
