Latinx Women in Flint and Genesee County Empowered at Women’s History Month Event Hosted By Somos Latinas

Women’s History Month is an annual celebration of the contributions and achievements of women throughout history. In Flint and Genesee County, Michigan, a group of Latinx women came together to celebrate this important month in a unique and empowering way.

On March 25th, 2023, Somos Latinas, a support collective for and by Latinx women, hosted a Women’s History Month event at the Flint Public Library. The event featured various activities, including a mindfulness session, a women’s health information workshop, resources, spoken word, and insights on Latinx women in business.

The women’s health workshop, led by Dr. Aisha Harris, was one of the highlights of the event. Dr. Harris discussed important women’s health exams and procedures and answered questions from attendees. After the health information workshop, there was also a workshop on resources available to women in the community, providing information on resources such as women’s shelters, health services, family planning, and other resources available to women.

The event was a great success, with over 30 attendees. Participants were able to learn, share experiences, and connect with other women in the community. One of the key takeaways from the event was the importance of supporting and uplifting one another. Latinx women face unique challenges and obstacles, and events like this provide a safe space to come together and find support within the community.
