Q. Hi, Kia, I am a tenth-grade student with big dreams of going to college, becoming a doctor, and providing free service to people who have no means of paying. I shared my dream with my teacher and was very disappointed that her response was very discouraging. She called it a ‘pipe dream’ and said that there is no way a doctor could provide free care to his or her patients. Do you think my dream is foolish and impossible?
A. Absolutely not. No dream is impossible, nor too big for God. I suggest you hold onto your dream and ask God to make it come true. I also encourage you to stay in touch with your teacher and make sure you humbly and cheerfully invite her to your graduation from Medical School, as well as the opening of your ‘Dream Practice.’ And remember God’s promise in His Word, that you can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens you. (Philippians 4:13)
Q. Kia, I am being bullied at school, and it’s getting harder and harder for me. I haven’t told my teacher nor my parents for fear that it will only get worse. What can I do to make the two girls that obviously hate me stop their bullying?
A. I suggest you bring the problem to the attention of both your teacher and your parents immediately. The bullying is certain to increase if allowed to go unnoticed by the only ones who can put a stop to it. I also suggest that you keep yourself in the company of other students who are in no way threatening to you.
Be comforted in knowing that bullies are usually people who are of low self- esteem and are not nearly as brave or strong as they project themselves to be. Expose your bullies now!
Q. Kia, I want to tell a male friend of mind that his hygiene is not good; but I don’t want to hurt or embarrass him. How can I tell him without hurting him or losing our friendship?
A. Honesty is always the best policy. Let your words be gentle and kind so that they reflect your love and concern for your friend. I feel certain that your kindness will be deeply appreciated.
