Q. I am so saddened Kia about all the evil and turmoil we see happening in the world today. I pray, but the devil just gets worse and worse. I find myself feeling depressed and agonizing over all the hatred and evil we see in the news. I want so much to make a difference, but I feel so helpless. What can I do to keep from sinking deeper into the pit of depression?
A. I suggest first that you fast from watching the news and dedicate the time that you would he watching it to spending quiet time with God. God hears and answers our prayers in His perfect way and timing. I suggest you ask Him to give you the Peace that only He can give. Then trust that He will strengthen you to keep your eyes on Him. Staying focused on the Love, Goodness, Grace, and Mercy of God will surely relieve the stress of watching the world news. You can see God’s wonders all around you if you keep your eyes and your mind on Him and His awesome wonders. I further suggest that at the end of each day, you make a list of the ways God has blessed you. Thank Him if you woke up and were able to walk without falling, to drive your car without having a collision, to eat and not be hungry, and for every breath that He blessed you to take. Know that no matter how bad things get in the world, God is in full control; and in His perfect way and timing, all evil and darkness will he gone forever. Look for the good in every situation you face, and the devil will have no power to pull you down into the pit of depression. God Bless You.
Q. Kia, how can I find someone I’d like to make amends to after many years of agonizing over something that I did to them? I’ve tried with no success to locate the person, and I continue to feel the need to confess my deed and apologize. What do you suggest I do?
A. If you have exhausted every means to contact the person with no success; I suggest that if you have confessed your transgression to God, that you trust His Word which tells us if we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God sees and knows your heart, and He does not remember any confessed sin. I suggest that you ask God to strengthen you to forgive yourself, and to embrace the joy of His forgiveness.
Q. What can I do to keep from trying so hard to help people who clearly have no desire to change behaviors that are ungodly according to what God tells us in the Bible?
A. What you can do is surrender all your worries and concerns to God, who is the only Source of Power to change the beliefs and behaviors of anyone. I suggest that you simply accept the things you cannot change, change the things you can, and pray for the wisdom to know the difference.
