Q. Kia, I find myself getting more and more frustrated about the state of the world today. It seems there is increasing hatred and discord among people, and less love and kindness. I want to make a difference, but I feel all my efforts are having no impact on what matters. What do you suggest I do to feel less anxious and frustrated?
A. I suggest that you continue to follow the voice of God, and trust that He is in full control. Know that God is in complete control, and His ways and timely are always perfect. I further suggest that you pray for patience and no doubt that in His perfect timing God is going to work it all out for good. Our Father always knows and does what is best.
Q. I don’t like one of my teachers at all. She is rude and impatient with her students when we have questions. What can I do to help her see that her attitude is negatively affecting her students, and makes learning more difficult because we are reluctant to ask questions?
A. I suggest you ask your teacher for a few private minutes of her time. Should she accommodate you, I suggest you address your concern with kindness and respect. Let her know that you are in need of her knowledge and expertise but feeling reluctant to ask questions due to fear of offending her. You might also share the fact that you are not alone in this dilemma and would like her to take inventory of her attitude and response to her students. Let your words be true and kind, in the hope that your teacher’s response will be favorable. Should your teacher reject or discount you, I then suggest you request a meeting with her with your school Principal to address your concern.
Q. Kia, what do you think about interracial marriages? I’m of the opinion that there should be no mixing of different races. Animals don’t mix in that way, so why should people?
A. I think your opinion is ungodly. People are all the same in the eyes of God. The color of our skin is not of His concern. While people look at outer appearances, God looks at our hearts. We all belong to Him, and are commanded to love one another, just as He loves us all. I suggest that you put forth a sincere effort to love your neighbors regardless of the color of their skin. You are sure to discover that the color of a person’s skin does not determine the content of his or her character.
