My Friend, the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library

As the residue of Covid-19, “The Pandemic” begins to calm down, people are getting back to some form of normalcy. Weddings, parties and travel have picked up pace.

During the pandemic, some names and faces became well known. Dr. Fauci was one of them. The book I read about him, “How a Boy from Brooklyn Became America’s Doctor” by Kate Messner.

Another person was Congressman John Lewis. He would tell people to get into, “good trouble”. The books I read on him were, “Because of You, John Lewis – The True Story of a Remarkable Friendship by Andrea Davis Pinkney and March – Book One by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin & Nate Powell.

Then there is an endearing lady whom I truly admired when I read her story: Ruth Bader Ginsburg, The book, “Becoming RBG” – Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Journey to Justice by Debbie Levy.

I also read a book by an accomplished author named Blair Mitchell. I met her at a church event where I purchased two of her books. The book, “Pandemic Practitioner” gave an inside look at what the hospital essential workers’ lives were like during those turbulent times and how they experienced burnout. The second book was called, “Hidden Heavy Weights.”

I would like to thank Kay Schwartz, retired executive director of the Flint Public Library. Because of you, the books checked out now have a cost on the receipts to let patrons know how much money they saved by checking out library books. Enjoy your retirement, Kay!
