Council Corner With Dr. Ladel Lewis

I am overwhelmed with gratitude having been selected by my colleagues to serve as the President of our Flint City Council. This recognition inspires me to become a better community servant and leader.

I will continue to pursue my passion to move Flint forward with even greater enthusiasm. Realizing that we have a long road ahead, we must recognize how far we have come. This council has accomplished great things for the city of Flint. We supported the historic Ashley Capital development, the passage of much needed Zoning Ordinances, the monumental Priority Waste Contract that solidified brand new recycling and trash receptacles for every homeowner, and the Landbank efforts to demolish blighted properties. We are not done.

During my tenure, it is my goal to: 1) Change the narrative by restoring order to the City Council. 2) Prioritize the business of the city at every meeting. 3) Infuse more resources into the  hardest hit wards. 4) Increase quality housing while decreasing homelessness. 5) Work closely with administration and all stakeholders to move our city forward. 6.)Equitably leverage and allocate all ARPA related funds.

Council Leadership appreciates your warm thoughts and well wishes for a productive 2024! We welcome all constructive criticism and comments regarding how to maximize our servitude towards our respective constituents.

We can’t do it without YOU!

Serving is not reserved to public servants. It’s everyone’s responsibility. If you would like to serve on a city wide board (Zoning Board of Appeals, Human Relations Commission, Ethics & Accountability Board, Board of Review and City Wide Advisory Committee) as a commissioner, please reach out to your respective councilperson.

Cheers!

Dr. Ladel Lewis
