Council Corner With Dr. Ladel Lewis

On behalf of  the Flint City Council, I would like to extend a New Years blessing to every resident and business owner in our beloved city. It is a privilege to keep our community informed and engaged in local government. We hope that you continue to read and share this great publication so others may understand how this elected body is working on behalf of the residents. 

The City Council passed several transformative resolutions in December. Some notable ones are listed below. 

Housing: The Brownfield Redevelopment Authority Plan for the Carriage Town Neighborhood Project was approved to create new homes in Ward 5. 

ARPA: A $50,000 Community grant was allocated to Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village to eradicate blight in Ward 3. 

Opioid Settlement: The City of Flint received funding from the State of Michigan from lawsuits against McKesson, Cardinal Health, AmerisourceBergen, Jansen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and its parent company Johnson & Johnson and allocated $50,000 to Donations With Love Foundation to help provide empowerment and literacy programs that educate the community on the effects of opioids, e-cigarettes, CBD, addiction prevention and recovery, harm reduction, and the overall impact of trauma on adolescents and families.

The City of Flint also allocated $200,000, to Insight Med-Psych healthcare services and hospital ‘s new Medical Psychiatric Specialty Hospital. 

Taxes: The City of Flint has entered into an agreement with the Michigan Department of Treasury. The State of Michigan will be responsible for the effective administration of City Income Taxes in a culture of compliance with the goal of treating taxpayers fairly and respectfully while optimizing revenue to the City of Flint.
