Economic Development Highlights from the State of the City

$2 billion in investments were committed to Flint within 12 months, from June 2022 to June 2023.

$300 million: Ashley Capital is redeveloping the Buick City brownfield to create up to 3,000 new jobs.

$10 million: ACI Island Plastics invested in a new recycling facility, creating 25 new jobs.

$23 million: Genesee Health Systems is investing in the health of Flint kids with the new Center for Children’s Integrated Services—and creating many new jobs along the way.

$16.7 million: Communities First is developing 48 new units for Flint families and commercial space in The Grand on University Ave.

$33.5 million: YMCA of Greater Flint is developing another 50 new residential units as part of its mixed-use facility, along with office space for the Crim Fitness Foundation and Hurley Physical Therapy Clinic. NBA Star and Flint native Kyle Kuzma donated $1 million to the project to support healthy lifestyles and opportunity for Flint kids.

General Motors has made 3 major investments that will ultimately retain over 5,800 jobs in the city of Flint:
$579 million in Flint Engine Operations
$233 million in Flint Metal Center
$816 million in Flint Assembly

$4.3 million: Flint MTA invested in two new hydrogen fuel cell electric buses. This completes MTA’s transition to a fully renewable energy fleet. We’re seeing green innovation right here in Flint as MTA partners with our local universities to create new green jobs and technologies.
