Council Corner With Dr. Ladel Lewis

Happy February!

Relaying good information is important to the progress of our community.

With the advent of social media, anyone, anywhere can create a platform to spread their agenda. Fact based or pure fiction.

I am proud to announce the launching of “Community Conversations,” a podcast focused on informing and connecting the community. Our goal is to bring clarity regarding local government and community partners. We will interview organizations such as the City of Flint, Genesee County Landbank, Consumers Energy and many more. You may tune in every Tuesday to a new show on the Flint 2nd Ward YouTube Channel.

Council recently passed several resolutions for the betterment of Flint. A few of them are as follows:

  • Council entered into a contract with a local vendor to repair the parking lots at Clara Hilborn Park, Durant Park, Ophelia Bonner Park and Cook Park. Moreover, bollards will be installed in at least eleven more parks in the city.
  • Council approved contracts for additional tree trimming and removal.
  • Council approved a resolution to refinance the KWA Contract saving the city approximately $20 million dollars.
  • Council approved money to complete renova tions to council chambers.
  • Appointed Susaye Brewer and Kathy Moore to the Board of Review.
  • Allocated $50,000 of opioid funds to Serenity House to expand their services to the City of Flint.

Please reach out to your respective councilperson if you have any questions.
