Congressman Dan Kildee held a press conference on Thursday, February 22 at Whaley Children’s Center to discuss his bipartisan legislation, the Recruiting Families Using Data Act, that recently passed the U.S. House of Representatives.
H.R. 3058 would help to improve the recruitment and retention of foster families. Across the country, there is a shortage of qualified foster parents. Most foster parents stop fostering after a year. To help states improve their recruitment efforts, Congressman Kildee’s legislation requires states to use a data-driven approach for identifying potential foster parents. It also encourages states to provide more opportunities for input from foster parents when creating diligent recruitment plans through foster parent advisory boards. Congressman Kildee’s bill passed the House on January 18th and awaits action in the U.S. Senate.
