Residents Ask MDOT to Revisit Plans for I-475

A group of Flint residents and organizations want the Michigan Department of Transportation to reconsider its working plan for rebuilding I-475 in the city to prevent “the same harms that were caused by its initial construction.”

In a letter to MDOT Director Bradley C. Wieferich on Thursday, Feb. 15, the group asked the agency to return to working with them and others to incorporate past suggestions into the project plan, including a narrower footprint for the expressway, improved access for cyclists, pedestrians and mass transit users, and capping a section of the highway near downtown.

Editor’s note: Flint Neighborhoods United is a signatory of this letter to Mr. Wieferich.
