Happy March!
We at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library are still energized from our February events; Black History Month, the African-American Read-In and Black Children’s Book Week.
Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow last month so according to that particular tradition we will enjoy early Spring weather ahead of the official start of spring on March 19, 2024.
Along with the promise of Spring, March also heralds National Reading Month which begins with Read Across America Day, March 2-8, 2024.
Let’s keep those pages turning. If you need some motivation, I suggest joining one of our book clubs and registering for the Winter Reading Challenge at flintpl.readsquared.com.
The more you read, the greater your chance to win prizes for reading all winter long.
The Evening Readers Book Club is meeting on March 14 at 6:30 PM to discuss The Commitments by Roddy Doyle. Our fiction only book club is reading Fire Keepers Daughter by Angeline Boulley, which was named this year’s Great Michigan Read. A heart-pounding, groundbreaking thriller about a Native teen who goes undercover to expose corruption in her community. Join us March 20 at 12 PM to discuss this captivating story.
Are you interested in what the library has to offer beyond books? In partnership with The Flint Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated come meet representatives from agencies that provide information on health care, insurance, support programs and other community resources at the Basic Needs Fair, March 23, 10am-1pm.
March is also Women’s History Month. Join us for the showing of the Academy Award winning movie Women Talking and stay for the discussion. This is a great way to celebrate Women’s History Month.
Currently Reading: Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin.
